Hudson's Bay X Swiss Army

Canadian lifestyle label Hudson’s Bay has just released this Swiss Army Knife. First made in the late 1800’s in Ibach, Switzerland, this Swiss Army Knife latest design sports a multi-stripe pattern over a white background, typical of Hudson’s Bay. The knife is of course designed for an array of purposes and has therefore included both a large and small blade, a can and bottle opener, a reamer with sewing eye, a corkscrew, toothpick, tweezers and a keyring. Available at Hudson's Bay department stores in Toronto (Queen Street), Vancouver Downtown, Montreal Downtown, Banff, and at Colette in Paris.

metropolis living

"Industrial Revolution... Reinvented" is the tagline use for the recent addition to The Junction. The store consists of a large inventory of old and new products with an industrial feel. Some items include vintage drafting tables/chairs, industrial lighting, metal signage, typography, photography, glassware and so much more. Owner Maggie Gattesco was pleasant to deal with and passionate about her work. It was definately worth the visit and a welcome addition to the area.

event - Living Green series

The topic for Living Green Series for tomorrow's event will be Green Building Materials and Renovations.

November 4th @ 7pm
Urban Mode
145 Tecumseth St

When you're planning your home renovations, choosing sustainable building materials and finishing options can play an important role. An environmentally-friendly approach can also provide you with a positive health benefit. Green Building Materials and Renovations, the November 4th topic in our Living Green series, will help you - the homeowner, designer, or contractor - to discover sustainable and environmentally-friendly options so you can create a healthy living environment. The November 4th discussion will be led by Christopher Phillips, founder of the renovations and consulting company Greening Homes. His company, Greening Homes, recently partnered with CMHC to build the Sustainable Condo/Healthy Home project in Toronto. Chris Phillips will address the environmental and health impacts of material choices, and help you discover what makes a renovation sustainable. He will also provide an introduction to the alternative material choices available on the market.

About the Speaker:

Christopher Phillips is a Sustainable Building Consultant with Greening Homes Ltd. He is a LEED AP, with a certificate in Sustainable Building and Design (Fleming College) and has formal training in the Building Biology approach to healthy building (IBE) and Building Science (Ryerson University). Christopher has delivered versions of this seminar for Toronto Regional Conservation Authority, the Canadian Safety Authority, the University of Toronto's School of Architecture, and Ryerson University's building science programme.

house tour

Last weekend I had the opportunity to attend a house tour in Port Hope featuring 2 modern custom built homes.

I'll start with the the second home on the tour designed by architect Stephanie Vermeulen. The owners stumbled upon a vacant treed lot overlooking a ravine and decided to purchase it anticipating their retirement in a few years. Their vision was to build a modern, sustainable, energy efficient home that would take advantage of the southern exposure.

art of living series - The Garden Pavillion by Paul Raff Studio

The latest Art of living Series event organized by Business for the Arts took place in the private garden of Artist/Teacher Susan Brown and featured the Pavillion of the Sky designed by architect Paul Raff. Inspired with his travels to Japan, Paul created this structure to act as a stage/outdoor studio/workshop and dining/sitting area.

The team at Sasquash did not have to work off blueprints but crafted the structure using the measurements directly from the on-site CAD program. This enabled them to make precise cuts without having to waste any  off-the-shelf cedar. The top of the pavillion is covered in Arcrylic so you can use it in the rain. for more in-depth info and pictures visit http://www.paulraffstudio.com/projects/special/garden/index.php

You can visit the gardens by taking art classes or attending the Wednesday night Garden Concerts during the summer. For more information visit http://www.artistgardencoop.com/
